During Kabarak University’s recent outreach and marketing mission in Rwanda, a heartwarming and inspiring moment unfolded when one of the university’s distinguished alumni, Dr. Abraham Kuol Nyuon, paid a surprise courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Henry Kiplangat, and the Ag. Provost, Rev. Justus Mutuku, in Kigali City.
Dr. Abraham Kuol, a graduate of Kabarak University’s School of Education, Humanities and Social Sciences, earned his Bachelor’s degree in Theology in 2009. Since then, he has advanced his studies and risen to become one of South Sudan’s most respected scholars and thought leaders. He currently serves as the Principal of the Graduate College at the University of Juba and is an Associate Professor of Political Science. He is also a SUSI Scholar of U.S. Foreign Policy, recognized for his scholarly contributions to regional peace, diplomacy, and governance.
Upon learning that a delegation from his alma mater was in Kigali for an outreach mission, Dr. Kuol went out of his way to reconnect. His visit took place on Saturday, 17th May 2025, and was a deeply meaningful occasion for both parties. The meeting was marked by warm reflections on his time at Kabarak and a thoughtful discussion on the role of higher education in Africa.
Interestingly, Dr. Kuol is currently in Kigali as a Visiting Professor at Kigali Independent University (ULK)—the very institution with which Kabarak University had earlier that week formalized a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

Prof. Kiplangat expressed immense pride in Dr. Kuol’s accomplishments and reaffirmed Kabarak University’s commitment to nurturing graduates who impact nations through leadership, service, and scholarship. “Dr. Kuol is a shining example of what it means to be a Kabarak alumnus,” said the Vice-Chancellor. “His leadership journey and ongoing contribution to the region are testaments to the transformative power of holistic, Christ-centered education.”
Dr. Kuol, in turn, praised the quality of education he received at Kabarak and thanked the university management for the values and academic foundation that helped shape his professional journey. He also expressed his hope for future collaborations between Kabarak University and institutions in both South Sudan and Rwanda.
This reunion was more than a symbolic gesture, it was a powerful reminder of the global footprint of Kabarak University’s alumni and the institution’s growing influence in shaping leaders across the African continent.
