Promoting Health and Wellbeing at Nakuru City Campus

From March 11th to 15th, 2024, Kabarak University's Nakuru City Campus buzzed with activity as they hosted a week-long Health Awareness Campaign. This initiative, organized by the Counselling section in collaboration with KABU Medical Centre, aimed to promote the well-being of both staff and students. A big commendation to the University Management for supporting this critical initiative.

The medical team played a vital role, providing essential health services. They offered HIV/AIDS testing, breast and cervical cancer screening, and comprehensive sessions on reproductive health. These services ensured participants received critical health information and screenings, empowering them to take charge of their well-being.

Meanwhile, peer counsellors, led by counsellor Veronicah Kombich, tackled mental health. Guided by the powerful message "it's okay not to be okay," they organized sessions to raise awareness about depression. They explored its signs, symptoms, and available remedies. This open dialogue aimed to create a supportive environment where staff and students felt comfortable discussing mental health concerns.

The campaign extended its reach beyond individual health by incorporating a group counseling session for staff members on stress management. Equipping staff with tools to manage stress fosters a more positive and productive work environment, benefiting both staff and students.

The Health Awareness Campaign culminated in an environmental activity on the last day. Peer counsellors actively participated in cleaning the campus grounds, emphasizing the connection between a healthy environment and a healthy learning community. This final act served as a powerful reminder that well-being encompasses both physical and mental health, as well as a clean and supportive environment.
