Shining a Light on Cancer: Kabarak University Takes on Cancer During Health Awareness Week

Prostate, breast, and cervical cancer are three of the most common types of cancer affecting both men and women. These cancers can be highly devastating and fatal if not detected and treated early. It is therefore crucial to create awareness, provide screening and diagnosis, and offer treatment options to those who are affected. Kabarak University is doing an excellent job by offering consultancy services and increasing awareness about these types of cancer during their Health Awareness Week.

Prostate cancer is a type of cancer that affects the prostate gland, which is located in the male reproductive system. It is the second most common cancer in men, with approximately 1 in 8 men diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime. According to the American Cancer Society, there will be an estimated 248,530 new cases of prostate cancer and 34,130 deaths in the United States in 2021. In Kenya, prostate cancer is the leading cancer in men, with approximately 2,600 new cases diagnosed every year. It is, therefore, vital for men to undergo regular prostate cancer screening to detect the disease early.

Breast cancer is a type of cancer that affects the breast tissue in women and, rarely, in men. It is the most common cancer in women globally, with approximately 1 in 8 women diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. The World Health Organization estimates that approximately 2.3 million new cases of breast cancer were diagnosed worldwide in 2020. In Kenya, breast cancer is the most common cancer in women, with an estimated 6,000 new cases diagnosed every year. Early detection through regular breast cancer screening is crucial in the successful treatment of breast cancer.

Cervical cancer is a type of cancer that affects the cervix, which is the lower part of the uterus. It is the fourth most common cancer in women globally, with approximately 570,000 new cases diagnosed each year. In Kenya, cervical cancer is the second most common cancer in women, with approximately 5,250 new cases diagnosed every year. Regular cervical cancer screening and early detection through pap tests can help in the successful treatment of cervical cancer.

Kabarak University is doing a great job by offering consultancy services and increasing awareness about these types of cancer during their Health Awareness Week. This initiative is aimed at providing screening, diagnosis, and treatment options for those who are affected by these types of cancer. By providing consultancy services, Kabarak University is enabling those affected by cancer to access expert advice and guidance on the most suitable treatment options. The Health Awareness Week also helps to create awareness and educate people about the importance of cancer screening, early detection, and treatment.

In conclusion, prostate, breast, and cervical cancer are three of the most common types of cancer affecting both men and women. Regular cancer screening, early detection, and treatment are crucial in the successful management and treatment of these types of cancer. Kabarak University's consultancy services and Health Awareness Week are commendable efforts aimed at increasing awareness, providing screening, diagnosis, and treatment options to those who are affected by these types of cancer.
