The two-day Kabarak University staff training and team building was off to a great start on a beautiful Tuesday morning. The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Henry K. Kiplangat, gave an inspiring speech that set the tone for the seminar, declaring it open. The first day of the seminar was intensive, with various speakers covering different topics. Dr. Bani Orwa talked about employee performance at the workplace, accountability, and process ownership. Mr. Paul Gichuki handled issues related to employee mental well-being at the workplace, workplace etiquette and relationships, financial wellness, and employee pre-retirement stage. The university staff had a great time learning, relearning, socializing, and enjoying sumptuous meals.
The Vice-Chancellor began his speech by acknowledging the importance of the annual staff seminar as a cherished tradition in the institution's calendar year. The theme for this year's seminar was "Empowering Employees for Success". He emphasized the need for the university community to come together as a united family, fostering a sense of unity and collaboration. This would create a supportive environment where everyone can thrive and contribute to the continued success of the institution.
The seminar focused on five key areas: employee accountability and process ownership, employee performance at the workplace, employee mental well-being at the workplace, workplace etiquette and relationships between supervisors and operative staff, and financial wellness and planning for retirement. The Vice-Chancellor stressed the importance of the seminar's objectives and the university's commitment to in-house training and off-the-job staff training.
The Vice-Chancellor urged staff members to take advantage of this opportunity to learn and engage with colleagues, building stronger relationships across the organization. He also reminded staff members to continue working with commitment and dedication to realize the university's goals and objectives.
The Vice-Chancellor was pleased to note that the entire day of the following day was set aside for team-building activities. He urged all members to turn up and participate in the various exercises planned. This would be a great opportunity for the staff to have fun, build their teamwork, and enhance their collaboration skills.
The Vice-chancellor set the members of staff clapping as he informed them that the university has reviewed its Staff Commendation, Recognition and Award Policy. The new policy provides an improved strategy for awarding exemplary performance. All employees have an opportunity to be recognized and awarded.
The first day of the seminar had ended with the university staff socializing and enjoying delicious meals. The Vice-Chancellor had thanked several organizations that supported the event, including Liaison Group (I.B) Ltd., ICEA Lion Group, Boresha SACCO Society Ltd., Skyline Sacco Society Limited, ABSA Bank, and Access Bank PLC. The second day promised to be even better, with muscle-stretching activities planned to enhance teamwork and collaboration among the university staff.
