At Kabarak University, the dedication to creating a safer and healthier community is evident in the proactive efforts of our peer counselors and professional counselors. Today, we embarked on an in-reach and outreach program to raise awareness about drug and substance abuse, with a particular focus on the critical issue of mental health. The central message of the day was clear and straightforward: "Drugs and substance use are harmful to your health."
The program's target audience encompassed both students within the university and the surrounding community, including Rafiki and its environs. The journey began from the administration block, traversing through Rafiki and the residential areas, all the way to the bustling marketplace. This comprehensive approach allowed the university to extend its outreach far beyond its campus borders, reaching individuals who may not have had access to such vital information otherwise.
In the afternoon, our dedicated counselors visited the university hostels, engaging with both male and female students. The students warmly welcomed their presence, and the discussions proved to be enlightening and informative. The conversations revolved around the profound impact of drug and substance use on mental health, emphasizing the importance of making healthy choices and seeking support when needed. It was a productive and heartwarming experience as the university community came together to address a critical issue and promote the well-being of all its members. Kabarak University's commitment to these outreach programs is indeed commendable and sets an example for others in promoting mental health and combating drug abuse.
