Department of Pre-Clinicals and Pharmacognosy

The Department of Pre-Clinicals and Pharmacognosy provides the essential scientific foundation for students pursuing careers in medicine, pharmacy, and other health sciences. The department is dedicated to excellence in teaching, research, and community engagement, ensuring that learners develop a strong understanding of biomedical sciences while appreciating the role of natural products in modern healthcare. Through rigorous academic training and practical laboratory experience, students acquire the knowledge, skills, and professional values necessary for clinical practice, research, and innovation.

The pre-clinical sciences component of the department focuses on core disciplines such as Human Anatomy, Human Physiology, Biochemistry, Pathology, and Medical Microbiology. These subjects form the backbone of medical and pharmaceutical education by linking fundamental scientific principles to clinical application. Students are trained to understand the structure and function of the human body, the biochemical basis of disease, and the mechanisms underlying health and illness.

Pharmacognosy complements this foundation by exploring medicines derived from natural sources, particularly medicinal plants and bioactive compounds. The department emphasizes phytochemistry, herbal drug development, quality control, standardization, and the safety and efficacy of natural products. By integrating traditional knowledge with modern scientific methods, the department promotes evidence-based research and responsible use of herbal medicines in healthcare systems.

Research within the department is focused on natural product drug discovery, antimicrobial and pharmacological studies, toxicological evaluation, and the validation of traditional medicinal practices. Through collaboration with academic institutions, industry partners, and regulatory bodies, the department contributes to scientific advancement and improved healthcare outcomes. Guided by a vision to be a center of excellence in biomedical sciences and natural product research, the Department of Pre-Clinicals and Pharmacognosy remains committed to academic distinction, innovation, and meaningful community impact.
