School of Music and Media Welcomes Media Council of Kenya for a Knowledge-Sharing Session with Mass Communication Students

Kabarak University's School of Music and Media, known for its excellence in producing competent professionals, recently had the privilege of hosting distinguished guests from the Media Council of Kenya (MCK). Led by Mecha Joseph, the Media Council of Kenya Nakuru Region Coordinator, the delegation included Ms. Angel Wanjala a finalist student currently working with MCK, and Joan Kittony, their administrative assistant. The purpose of their visit was to enlighten and inspire the media students at Kabarak University on journalists' accreditation, the journalist's code of conduct, and the life of a journalist, and to answer questions on careers in journalism.

Empowering Education: Directorate of Excellence in Learning and Teaching Trains Staff on Competency-Based Education for 21st-Century Skills

In a bid to enhance the quality of education and teaching practices, Kabarak University's Directorate of Excellence in Learning and Teaching recently organized a training session on Competency-Based Education (CBE) for its staff members. The training, held at the university auditorium, aimed to equip the participants with a comprehensive understanding of the essence of CBE, the distinction between Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) and Knowledge-Based Curriculum (KBC), 21st-century skills in higher education, the Basic Education Curriculum Framework (BECF), the implications of BECF to the curriculum, and the challenges and solutions in implementing CBC.

Data Science Africa: 2023 Summer School and Workshop

A team of 6 faculty and 22 students from Kabarak University attended the Data Science Africa 2023 Summer School and Workshop that was held at the University of Rwanda in Kigali from 8th - 12th May, 2023. The event was a huge success, with over 230 participants from 15 African countries, including Algeria, Botswana, Burundi, Cameroon, Eswatini, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, Tanzania, and Uganda.

In a heartwarming display of collaboration and shared purpose, a visiting team from Indiana University, led by Ms. Nicole Anderson, joined the Kabarak University Department of Public Health in a community service initiative in the Mogotio area. This endeavor aimed to witness firsthand the impactful work being done by Kabarak University in the local community and to further strengthen the ongoing collaboration talk between the two institutions. The visit not only shed light on the transformative efforts of Kabarak University but also highlighted the significance of cross-border partnerships in addressing public health challenges.

Emerald Waters, A River Reborn: Kabarak University's Quest for Safe Water in Mogotio

In the Mogotio area, along the banks of the Molo River, a remarkable transformation is taking place. The people living in this region consider the presence of a brown-colored water river as a blessing, despite its apparent contamination. For years, they have been utilizing this water for various purposes such as washing cars, and motorcycles, cooking, and even drinking directly from it. Unfortunately, this has resulted in the proliferation of waterborne diseases and numerous cases of diarrhea in the local health facilities.
